Lady Cougars drop games to Walters State, Gadsden State

Reeling off of a 6 match win streak, the Lady Cougars have lost their last two games. Cleveland State dropped a match, 0-3 against Walters State last Saturday and another one, 0-3 against Gadsden State Community College last Wednesday. Now sitting at 11-5, the Lady Cougars are looking to finish the season on a high note. Five matches remain on the schedule before they face their Conference rival, Walters State in a playoff for an appearance at the Region Tournament.

Head Coach Randy Evans stated, "Overall, we are very pleased with the season.  In regards to our last two matches, we just have to keep our intensity up, not get down, and clean up a few things. Small things like serving errors and better passing so we can run our offense. But overall, we've been extremely satisfied with how our year has gone." He went on to say, "We have played against some fantastic competition this year. Gadsen state and Walters State are great benchmarks for us to look at as we begin to grow our program.  We are already right there with them competitively, we just have to continue working as we establish ourselves. We are gaining so much interest now and we are excited to begin to compete at a higher level as we move forward with our program."

Assistant Coach Alizabeth Atnip also commented, "Our girls have improved tremendously since August. We believe it was evident last night when we put up a huge fight against a very solid team in Gadsden State. Moving through the last few weeks of the season, we hope to polish up our play calling and moving the ball around. Having a faster offense is going to give us an edge against opposing defenses. Right now we are striving to win our conference game against Walters State to qualify for the Region tournament. Specifically, we want to finish this season with no regrets. I expect these girls to leave everything they got on the court through the final point of our season."

Look out for the Lady Cougars as they face Welch College at home next, on October 14th, at 1:00 PM EST.
