Lady Cougars Start Off Season Strong

The Cleveland State Softball team started off their season at the Border Battle hosted by Georgia Highlands College. The Lady Cougars got their day started off with a win over East Georgia State with a final score of 4-3. Shiane Stockwell of the Lady Cougars got the win, posting 7 innings pitched with 8 strikeouts and only 2 earned runs. Bre Dunsmore had a nice day at the plate, recording a double and 2 RBI's. Courtney Mooneyham and Rachel Pierce each had an RBI as well. 

In the second game, the Lady Cougars lost to Georgia Highlands by a score of 4-1. Bekah Copas was the pitcher in this one, taking the loss after only allowing 2 earned runs in 6 innings pitched. Rachel Pierce had the only RBI of the game for the Lady Cougars, scoring Sadie Coons. 

Cleveland State quickly rebounded in the second game, taking down Shelton State with a score of 4-3. It was Shiane Stockwell with the win again, this time pitching 7 innings with 6 strikeouts. On the offensive side, Hailey Galvan and Macy Bryant each had an RBI while Grayson Brown recorded 2 RBI's. The Lady Cougars also showed some proactive baserunning, with Hailey Galvan and Grayson Brown each snagging a stolen base. 

The Lady Cougar's next matchup will be on February 18th, at West Georgia Technical College at 1:00 PM.
