Cougars Cruise Past Georgia Highlands

Cleveland State Baseball cruised to a convincing 6-1 victory over Georgia Highlands College on Tuesday.

The Cougars got straight to work, knocking in their first run in the top of the 1st inning with a Logan Peterson single, scoring Noah Peterson. Shortly after, Noah Hill scored off of a balk in the 3rd inning to bring the score to 2-0 over Georgia Highlands. After a Noah Peterson sac fly in the 4th inning, scoring Joey Roberson, Noah Hill singled, sending Trey Vanderpool across home plate. The offensive showing continued in the 5th inning when Joey Roberson hit an RBI single, scoring Brandon Mason. Georgia Highlands finally answered in the 5th inning, scoring their only run of the game. The Cougars added one more run to their lead and the game finished with a 6-1 score. 

Head Coach Mike Policastro commented, "We had a solid offensive showing today with Noah Hill and Logan Peterson each collecting 3 hits. Ryan Inches also had a solid day on the mound, it was an overall great win."

In terms of baserunning and defense, Brandon Mason snagged a stolen base while Noah Hill, Joey Roberson, and Trey Vanderpool turned a crucial double play. Ryan Inches got the win on the mound, going 5 innings, allowing one 1 earned run while issuing 5 strikeouts.

This puts the Cougars at 2-2 on the season. They'll look to continue their season in the win column as they host Vincennes University on Saturday, February 17th, for their home opener.
