Cougars Split Doubleheader With West Georgia Tech

Cleveland State's Baseball team split games in a doubleheader with West Georgia Tech on Saturday, winning game one, 10-6 while losing game two 11-8.

Hooper Mills was the winning pitcher in game one, going 5 innings while only allowing 2 earned runs and 2 strikeouts. Gunnar Norwood came on in relief and also had 2 strikeouts but gave up 4 earned runs. On the offensive side, the Cougars wasted no time in getting some runs on the board scoring 6 of their 10 total runs in the first inning. Noah Peterson, Hunter Oliver, Logan Peterson, Cameron Payne, Cameron Hankins and Joey Roberson all crossed home plate in the first inning. By the time the 4th inning rolled around, West Georgia had tacked on 2 runs bringing the score to 6-2, the Cougars again went on a tear, scoring 4 more runs between the 4th and 7th innings. West Georgia attempted a comeback with 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning but ultimately lost to the Cougars, 10-6.

A different outcome resulted in game two of the doubleheader with the Cougars losing 11-8. 

West Georgia started off hot, scoring 7 runs in the first 3 innings. Logan Peterson of Cleveland State smacked a lone home run in the 4th inning, but West Georgia kept on rolling, tacking on 4 more runs in the same inning. From the 5th inning and on, the only runs being scored were those by Cleveland State, scoring 6 runs throughout the 5th, 6th and 7th innings, ending game two with a 11-8 West Georgia final.

The Cougars now sit at 6-5 on the season. They'll take on Piedmont College in a doubleheader at home, on Tuesday, February 27th starting at 1:00 PM.
