Lady Cougars Split Doubleheader Against Snead State

Cougar Softball split a doubleheader on Tuesday, February 27 in Boaz AL beating the Snead State Parsons in game one. 9-4 while losing the nightcap, 5-2.

Shiane Stockwell struck out 10, moving her season record to a perfect 5-0 as Cleveland State banged out 16 hits, scoring in the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th innings.  Snead led after one inning by a score of 3-1 only to see the Cougars tie the score in the 4th on a 2-run homer over the centerfield fence by freshman catcher Baylee Woods.

In the 5th Emily Yell, freshman from Sequatchie County doubled in sophomore Macy Bryant who had singled to start the inning giving the Cougars a 4-3 lead.  In the 6th inning Rachel Pierce reach base on an a two out error by Snead's shortstop and was doubled home by third base player Grayson Brown.  Bryant finished off the inning scoring by doubling home Brown, giving the Cougars a 6-3 lead.

After a homerun by the Parsons in inning six, freshman centerfielder Hailey Galvan hit a bases loaded double to left center driving in three giving Cleveland State their final 9-4 win.  Runs were scored by Yell who had reached on a fielder's choice, Summer Dean with a swinging bunt single and Sadie Coons who had singled in to left field.  Stockwell shut down Snead in the bottom of the 7th, facing four batters.

On the game, Coons had three hits while two hits each were registered by Galvan, Brown, Bryant and Woods.  Pierce, Mooneyham, Yell, Dunsmore and Dean each had one.

In the game two 5-2 loss, Cougar rallies  in the 6th and 7th innings each yielded one run which fell short as Bekah Copas (1-3) took the loss when Snead scored two runs in the 4th and three in the 6th.

The final out was a bases loaded deep fly ball that was caught off the bat of Brown.  Galvan had two of Cleveland State's seven hits as Pierce, Brown, Bryant, Tori Ogle and Yell each had one.  Bryant and Galvan drove in single runs in the 6th and 7th innings respectively.

Cougar softball opens conference play this weekend March 3rd with day, date and starting time to be determined based on weather conditions.
