Lady Cougars Sweep Doubleheader vs Kishwaukee

Tuesday, March 13 Cleveland State softball (10-9, 2-6) returned to winning ways by beating Kishwaukee College 16-1 and 1-0 in a non-conference home doubleheader.  Shiann Stockwell in winning her 8th game of the season struck out 11 in the five inning contest while giving up only two hits.  Bekah Copas combined with Kaitlyn Pickens in game two striking out 6 in five innings, winning her second game of the season while Pickens picked up the save with two innings of relief.  

Game One

The Cougars would support Stockwell and her stellar pitching, banging out 16 hits while scoring five runs in the 1st inning, five more in the 2nd, three in the 3rd and finishing with three in the 4th.  Macy Bryant would go 4-for-4 in the game using a 3-run homer in the 1st and a 2-run double in the 4th giving her five RBI's.  Catcher Baylee Woods knocked in two runs in the 3rd with a homerun and would drive home another run in the 4th giving her three RBI's on the game.

Joining Bryant and Woods in the hitting attack were Hailey Galvan, Cortney Mooneyham, and Stockwell with two hits each while Summer Dean, Rachel Pierce, Ambra Belcher and Emily Yell each had one.  Mooneyham had two RBI's and Pierce walked twice in the 16-1 win

Game Two

Cleveland State would score the only run of the game when Bryant singled home Galvan who had doubled to start the 3rd inning.  The Cougars had seven hits and five walks on the game while leaving 10 runners stranded on base, in a game in which they had runners reach base in each inning.

Grayson Brown walked three times while Galvan, Yell, Bryant, Mooneyham, Copas, Tori Ogle, Bre Dunsmore and Sadie Coons each had one hit. Copas gave up Kishwaukee's only hit, a one-out double in the 1st inning.

Weather permitting, Cougar softball travels the short distance to Chattanooga on Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17 to resume conference play vs. the Chattanooga State Tigers.  Friday games are scheduled for 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. and Saturday games are scheduled for 12 n. and 2 p.m. The doubleheader contests are played on the campus of Chattanooga State.
