Cougars Win Series vs Chattanooga State

Cleveland State baseball won their series at Chattanooga State this weekend, taking game one 5-3, losing game two 12-5 and winning game three 11-3.

Hooper Mills was on the mound for the Cougars in game one, pitching 6.1 innings while allowing 3 earned runs, 4 walks while striking out 10. Mills received the win in this matchup, improving his season record to a perfect 5-0. Greg Tye came on to close, recording his 4th save of the season against the Tigers. The Cougars scored 5 runs off of 7 hits thanks to RBI's by Noah Hill, Hunter Oliver, Logan Peterson and Tucker Mendenhall. Noah Hill and Tucker Mendenhall also a stole a base each in the 5-3 win over Chattanooga State. 

Chattanooga State took game two in the series with a 12-5 final score. Collin Grove started this game for the Cougars, lasting just one inning while allowing 4 earned runs and a walk. Brock Browning came on in relief for an inning, throwing a walk and 2 strikeouts. Jared McDonald followed, pitching one inning, issuing a walk and a strikeout. Corey Linz finished the game on the mound, pitching three innings, allowing 1 earned run while striking out two.

The Cougars faced a steep deficit by the second inning in game two as the Tigers had amassed a ten run lead. Cleveland State did their best to turn things around; scoring 5 runs of their own but ultimately lost, 12-5. Overall, the Cougars had scored 5 runs off of 10 hits with Hunter Oliver, Logan Peterson, Cameron Payne each collecting an RBI while Tucker Mendenall had 2 RBI's. 

The final game of the series went much better for the Cougars as they took their second win against the Tigers, 11-3. Ryan Lloyd was on the mound for the Cougars in the series clinching victory, allowing only 2 earned runs, 3 walks while striking out 10 in the complete game performance. The win moves Lloyd's record to 1-2. 

Cleveland State scored 11 runs off of 12 hits in game three. Brandon Mason, Logan Peterson, Rhett Baldwin and Tucker Mendenhall each collected an RBI while Noah Hill recorded 2 RBI's and Hunter Oliver with 3 RBI's. Brandon Mason and Cameron Payne each snagged a stolen base in the victory. 

The series win moves Cleveland State's record to 18-8 (6-3). They'll look to continue their winning ways as they take on Piedmont College's JV squad on the road on Tuesday, March 20th starting at 1:00 PM.
