Cougars Sweep Piedmont JV

Cleveland State baseball took on Piedmont College's JV squad in a doubleheader on Wednesday. The Cougars swept the Lions, winning game one by a score of 10-3 and game two by a score of 9-3.

Ryan Inches was on the mound for the Cougars in game one, pitching 6 innings allowing 2 earned runs while striking out 6. Inches received the win, moving his record to 5-1 on the season. Gunnar Norwood came on in relief for Inches, pitching 1 inning, allowing 1 earned run and a walk. The Cougars scored 10 runs off of 11 hits while also drawing 7 walks in the victory. Trey Vanderpool finished with 3 RBI's while Logan Peterson and Tucker Mendenhall each finished with 2 RBI's. Hooper Mills also collected an RBI in the first game against the Lions. Cleveland State also displayed fantastic baserunning, with Trey Vanderpool stealing a base while Brandon Mason snagged 3 bags. 

Game two had a similar result for the Cougars, finishing with a 9-3 Cleveland State victory. Jackson Etter was the starter in game two, pitching 6 innings, allowing 2 earned runs, 1 walk while striking out 5. Tyler Zak came on in relief, allowing one walk with 2 strikeouts. The Cougars had a total of 15 hits, resulting in 9 runs. Noah Hill, Hunter Oliver, Logan Peterson and Caleb Collins each had a double in the win. Trey Vanderpool, Noah Hill, Hunter Oliver, Logan Peterson and Caleb Collins each finished with an RBI while Hooper Mills finished with 2 RBIs. Cleveland State continued their momtentum on the base path, stealing a total of 7 bases. Logan Peterson, Hooper Mills and Trey Vanderpool each had a single stolen base while Noah Hill and Noah Peterson finished with 2 stolen bags each. 

The sweep moves Cleveland State's record to 20-8 (6-3) on the season, improving their road record to 8-6. The Cougars are currently on a 3 game winning streak while holding a .313 batting average, .412 on base percentage, and a .450 slugging percentage on the season. 

Cleveland State will be back in action at home on Friday, March 23rd in a doubleheader against Columbia State, starting at 1:00 PM.
