Abby Hubert Commits to the University of North Georgia

Abby Hubert of Cleveland State's women's basketball team has signed with the University of North Georgia to continue her academic and athletic career.

Abby, who played the post for Baylor School in Chattanooga, was a member of the best of prep all-tournament team from her sophomore year on through her senior year. She was also named to the all-tournament team her junior year. Abby hit the 1000 point mark during her senior season at Baylor.

While at Cleveland State, Abby was a force for the Lady Cougars. In her career at CSCC Abby averaged 17.3 points per game, 4.4 rebounds per game and 1.6 steals per game. Abby placed 11th out of all NJCAA Divison I women's basketball players in points per game this last season with an average of 20.4 PPG. Also, Abby finished first overall in the TCCAA in points per game during her sophomore season, earning First Team All-TCCAA honors.  In total, Abby scored 933 points for the Lady Cougars during her 2 years at Cleveland State. Abby commented, "I was surprised to learn that I scored that many points. Having scored 1000 points when I was at Baylor, it's great knowing I almost hit that mark again at Cleveland State. I really think my points total is indicative of my hard work over the years."

Abby reflected on her time at Cleveland State, saying, "My time here as a Lady Cougar really helped me mature and figure out what I want to do in the future. Whether it was related to basketball, school or life in general, Cleveland State really prepared me for the next level."

While Abby had a number of Division II offers, she decided to sign with North Georgia. Abby stated, "I respect that they are a winning program. That's something I want to contribute to and be a part of. I really connected to the head coach, Buffie Burson as well as the players currently at North Georgia. The girls I met were really nice and were committed to winning, that's something I really connected with." Abby also said that the location of her future school made an impact, "I also liked the fact that campus isn't too far from home, so my family and friends can still come to my games and show support."

Cleveland State women's head coach Evelyn Thompson had this to say regarding Abby's signing, "I am so proud of Abby and all that she has accomplished this year. At the beginning of the year, she was ranked as high as fifth in the country in scoring at 26.5 points per game. She ended the year ranked first in the TCCAA, averaging 20.4 ppg, and garnered First Team All-TCCAA.  She is a dynamic scorer who also has the ability to take her defender off the bounce. I expect her to do great things at North Georgia over the next two years. The North Georgia program is not only getting a great player, it is getting an even better young woman, someone who will be a tremendous asset and representative of their program. And while I am very proud of her athletic accomplishment, I am even prouder of the fact that she will graduate with her Associate's Degree on May 5th. She is a true student-athlete. We will miss her dearly.

Abby Hubert would like to express thanks to the Cleveland State coaching staff, her friends and family, and everyone else who helped her reach this next level.
