Former CSCC Baseball Pitcher, Wyrick, Shining in Minor Leagues

Former left handed pitcher for Cleveland State, Jacob Wyrick, is starting off his path to the show in the right direction.

Wyrick pitched one season for the Cougars, moving on to complete his degree at MTSU where he pitched for the Blue Raiders. The lefty was drafted in the 38th round of the 2015 MLB draft by the New York Mets but Wyrick opted to stay in school. Wyrick received a second-team All-state TCCAA selection and was a two-time pitcher of the week.

During his senior season at MTSU, Wyrick held a 10.8 strikeout/per nine-inning ratio while going 5-3 with a 3.56 ERA. His best performance at MTSU came against Old Dominion during his senior year where he pitched 6 solid innings, allowing only 2 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 10 batters. He led the Blue Raiders with 82 strikeouts that year and was ranked 7th in Conference USA in the strikeouts cateogory.

The Cincinnati Reds drafted Wyrick in the 30th round of the 2018 MLB draft joining former CSCC catcher, and former Cleveland High School baseball teammate, Hunter Oliver, who was also drafted by the Reds. Wyrick now pitching with the Billings Mustangs in Montana, Cincinnati's rooke-ball affiliate, tossed three perfect relief innings against the Chicago White Sox's minor league affiliate, Great Falls Voyagers. Wyrick showed fantastic control has he hurled 24 out of 30 pitches for strikes while striking out 3.

As Wyrick continues to move through his professional career he has yet to allow a walk and has surrendered only two hits, in 4 innings of relief work.
