Lady Cougars Battle in Conference Matchup

With the season winding down, the Lady Cougars took on a tough week, playing 5 games with the final two on Saturday. Facing Patrick Henry and Walters State in a tri-match, Cleveland State volleyball team split the day with a win over Patrick Henry in straight sets.

"Our team has gotten scrappy towards the end of this season. We have suffered a lot of injuries and these girls have really stepped up to fill in where we need them," assistant coach Alizabeth Atnip said of the lady cougars. "With all the adversity this team is up against, they continue to improve and fight for every point. I am proud of how we are playing."

After the victories 25-22, 25-14, and 25-19, the team was ready to face the final conference matchup before tournament.

Cleveland State was matched point for point with Walters State early on in the first set but playing back to back games started to show for the lady cougars as they dropped the first set 15-25.

Bouncing back, the team showed heart and after many long rallies, Walters bested Cleveland again with a score of 21-25. The third set went to the senators as well, finishing 15-25.

Head coach Randy Evans said, "the team gave great effort to the very last play. These tough games will really help us in the tournament."
