Lady Cougars Defeat Crown College, 3-0

Cleveland State Community College's women's volleyball team faced Crown College on Thursday evening, winning by a match score of 3-0.

The victory improves the Lady Cougar's record to 10-13 on the season with a 4-6 home record. Early in the first set, the Lady Cougars went back and forth with Crown College, taking a 6-5 lead. The two teams continued to battle back and forth, eventually tying at 15-15 before a couple of nice plays by Kirstie Williams and Ariana Smith delivered a 22-18 lead. The Lady Cougars stayed steady with their lead and won set one by a score of 25-20.

The second set was dominated by Cleveland State, as they jumped out to an early lead and powered their way to a score of 17-6, halfway through the set. Kate Essenberg and Reagan Morrison each contributed nicely as Cleveland State took the second set victory, 25-12.

The third and final set again was again mainly controlled by the Lady Cougars as they jumped out to another early lead, 13-5. Crown College had little to do in the third set and struggled to gain any ground against the Lady Cougars. Cleveland State took set three by a score of 25-9 and won the match in straight sets, 3-0.

Next up for the Lady Cougars is a road match against Georgia Northwestern Technical College. Cleveland State defeated Georgia Northwestern earlier in the season and will look to do the same on October 22nd at 6:00 PM. The Lady Cougars will then return home on Wednesday, October 24th for a home match against Hiwassee College where Cleveland State Athletics will recognize our sophomore volleyball players.
