Lady Cougars Drop Tight Game vs Roane State

Cleveland State's women's basketball team lost a close game against Roane State on Saturday, losing by a score of 63-60.

The match up saw many lead changes as the Lady Cougars battled Roane State. Cleveland State were able to hold a lead into halftime, up by a score of 36-24 over Roane. It was the second half where Roane outscored, scoring 39 points to Cleveland State's 24.

Leading the Lady Cougars was Jordan Smith who tallied 16 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Britnay Gore and Hannah Phillips each scored 11 points, while both combined for 12 rebounds and 6 steals. Michaela Bennefield was a force from the bench, scoring 8 points while snagging 7 rebounds and 2 steals.

The final minute of the game was full of theatre for the crowd. With 42 seconds to go, the Lady Cougars found themselves down, 57-60 to the Raiders. Cleveland State managed to tie the game up at 60 points, but it was Roane State who got the last look, winning the game by three points, 63-60.

The Lady Cougars are now 5-11 (3-5) and will look to get back into the win column as they face Jackson State on Friday, January 25th at home.
