Late Game Mistakes Cost Cougars In 6-3 Loss At Georgia Highlands

The Cougars opened their season with a 6-3 loss to the Chargers of Georgia Highlands College in Rome, GA on Tuesday afternoon.

Cleveland State had a 3-2 lead up until the bottom of the 8th inning, when Georgia Highlands was able to rally to score 4 runs, aided by a leadoff walk and error allowed by the Cougar defense. Chargers DH Skylar McPhee recorded 2 RBI in the contest, one of which came in the late-game comeback.

A bright spot in the loss for the Cougars was the stat line for CF Tucker Mendenhall. He was 2-for-3 on the day with 2 RBIs. RF Jonathan Hickman, who was 1-for-3, drove in the other run.

Cleveland State will be back in action on Thursday at 2:00 ET, where they open up a three-game series at Gordon State College.
