Eighth Inning Rally Falls Short For Baseball

Baseball fell 8-7 to the Senators of Walters State on Sunday, resulting in a 0-4 season series.

Cleveland State trailed 8-2 until the bottom of the eighth inning, where they fell just short of tying the game as they scored four runs in the inning. SS Andrew Carpenter drove in two in the inning and 3B Rhett Baldwin and PH Caleb Hopkins recorded the other two RBI in the inning.

Baldwin was 3-for-4 with a home run and 2 RBI in the game and P Jonathan Hickman was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI as well.

Hickman also pitched well on the mound, giving up just three earned runs and striking out five in his four-inning start. RP Brock Browning went three innings of two strikeout, shutout ball.

The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Tusculum College to face the Pioneers' JV team. First pitch in the doubleheader is set for 4:00 ET.
