Cougars Win Two Close Games Friday

Baseball swept the first two games of their doubleheader with the Pioneers of Vol State on Friday.

In the first game, the Cougars won 3-1. 1B Marcial Hernandez was 2-for-2 with a home run, a walk, and two runs scored. DH Brock Browning went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base, and 3B Rhett Baldwin was 1-for-3 and also drove in a run. SP Ryan Inches had a phenomenal game on the mound, allowing just a lone run and three hits over seven innings paired with six strikeouts.

In the second game, Cleveland State pulled out a 2-1 victory, which was decided in the seventh inning of the game. C Kendall Catlett scored the game winning run after a passed ball allowed him to advance. 2B Andrew Carpenter was 1-for-1 with a walk, driving in the other run in the game and CF Tucker Mendenhall was 2-for-4. SP Ethan Walls also was great for the Cougars on the mound, allowing just one earned run on two hits over six innings with six strikeouts. Brennan Davis picked up the save.

The Cougars are back in action tomorrow at 1:00 ET looking for the series sweep at Vol State.
