Cougars Sweep Vol State

Baseball completed a series sweep of Vol State with a 4-0 victory over the Pioneers on Saturday.

Until the fifth inning, the game was tied at 0-0, but the Cougars offense came to life and scored three runs to power them ahead of Vol State. The top of the order was a key to the inning, with CF Tucker Mendenhall (1-for-4), LF Lance Dockery (1-for-4), and SP Jonathan Hickman (1-for-3) each driving in a run. 3B Rhett Baldwin (1-for-5) also hit a home run in the seventh inning to seal the deal.

Hickman carried the Cougars on the mound, pitching an eight-inning shutout paired with seven strikeouts.

"We pitched and played well all weekend," head coach Mike Policastro said. "Our offense was able to capitalize on scoring opportunities in all three games. It was good to see us bounce back and get a sweep after last weekend."

The Cougars will play at Shorter University JV on Wednesday. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 4:00 ET.
