Cougar Baseball Uses Bats to Top Calhoun
The Cougars hit the road for the first time on Wednesday February 8 traveling to Tanner Alabama to face the Calhoun Warhawks. The Cougars came off the bus swinging using an 8 run first inning enroute to a 23-0 win.
The Cougar offense pounded out 20 hits in scoring 23 runs. The offense was led by catcher Riley Orr who was 4-for-4 with 7 RBI's on two doubles, a triple and solo home run. Everyone in the lineup had at least one hit. Jaylen Jones, A.J. Swader, Rhett Hammontree, Parker Hughes and Bryce Burkey each had two hits and 3 RBI's on the day. Freshman Reggie Cooper added two hits on a double and solo home run while sophomore Jacob Robinson had a solo home run in the third inning.
Freshman pitcher Cooper Casteel was the beneficiary of the Cougar offense as he tossed 4 innings allowing 0 runs on 4 hits while striking out 5 and walking three in picking up his first win of the season. Connor O'Donnell tossed the fifth and final inning allowing no runs or hits, with a walk and strikeout.
The Cougars are back in action on Friday February 10 and Saturday February 11 hosting Vincennes University in a three-game series. Friday's doubleheader will start at 12:00 and the series finale on Saturday will start at 11:00.
