Pickens' Shutout, 4th Inning Outburst Advances Lady Cougars

The Lady Cougars fought to live another day, winning their win-or-go home play-in game in the TCCAA Tournament on Sunday 8-0 in five innings over 10th seeded Southwest Tennessee to advance to the first round.

A fourth-inning offensive explosion powered the Cougars to victory. Leading 3-0, Sadie Coons singled to drive in Summer Dean, and then Tori Ogle scored on an error. Hannah Turner then singled to drive in two runs to bring the score to 7-0, with Auburn Collake then scoring Kaitlyn Crump on a sacrifice fly for an 8-0 lead. Dean also tripled to drive in two to aid in the offensive outburst.

Kaitlyn Pickens was phenomenal on the mound, shutting out the Lady Saluqis with a five-inning, seven strikeout start.

The Lady Cougars will face #2 Walters State on Monday at 1:30 ET. The tournament from this point forward will now be double elimination.
