Softball's Magical Run Ends Wednesday

After a tough string of wins in elimination games, softball's magical run in the TCCAA Tournament came to an end with a 5-4 loss to Walters State on Wednesday.

After finding themselves down 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Cougars refused to go down without a fight. In the fourth inning, C Tori Ogle (1-for-3) doubled to score 1B Auburn Collake (1-for-4) to make the score 5-1. In the fifth, Cleveland State struck again, making it 5-2 when 2B Sadie Coons (1-for-3) scored on Hailey Galvan's (1-for-4, 2 RBI) groundout.

In the seventh inning, down to their final two outs, the Lady Cougars fought back again, as SS Aubrie Bowman (0-for-2) just missed a homerun to tie the game at 5-5, but scored LF Emily Yell on a sacrifice fly for a 5-3 score. Galvan then singled to score Coons and bring the Lady Cougars within one run at 5-4, but Cleveland State was not able to drive in the tying run with two outs.

SP Kaitlyn Pickens pitched well to start the game, allowing just one earned run over three innings of work. RP Peyton Varela also allowed just one hit and no earned runs over three innings of work.
