Lady Cougars Lose Heartbreaker in Quarterfinals of TCCAAs

Cleveland State falls 77-72 to second-seeded Motlow State in the quarterfinals of the TCCAA Tournament.

Motlow State went on a 9-0 run to start the game, but the Lady Cougars showed resilence early, battling back to tie the game at 25 at the 7:56 mark of the second quarter and taking a 27-25 lead at the 6:33 mark of the second quarter. They tied the game at 38 going into the locker room at the half.

They stormed out of the locker room, taking a six point lead at the 4:22 mark of the third quarter off of Kaitlyn Crump's layup stemming from Charisma Barner's block. They built their lead up to eight in the third quarter, but at the beginning of the fourth, the Lady Bucks were able to take the lead back midway through the fourth.

It was a hard-fought battle in the late stages of the game. The Lady Cougars tied it twice within the last three minutes, but Motlow State took the lead back with 2:43 to go and did not relinquish it.

Michaela Bennefield had a stellar game, leading the team in points scored, assists and rebounds with 25, 9, and 15 respectively. Hannah Phillips scored 11 and also recorded four rebounds and three assists.
