Lady Cougs Lose Heartbreaker at Snead State

Women's Basketball suffered a tough defeat in a 72-69 nailbiter at Snead State on Tuesday evening.

The game went down the final second. With 1.7 left in the contest, Madison Dasher hit a three-point shot to bring the Lady Cougars into a 69-69 tie with the Lady Parsons. After a Snead State timeout, the Lady Parsons were able to move the ball up the court into a position to score the game-winning shot.

Despite the drama at the end of the game, it was the turnovers and missed turnovers that ultimately cost Cleveland State. The Lady Cougars committed 31 turnovers and missed 19 total free throws in the contest.

"We were not focused and did not give the effort necessary to win a game on the road," said head coach Evelyn Thompson. "We had so many chances to win this game. I will take responsibility for not having us focused and ready to compete at the level necessary to come away with the win… We will emphasize [playing with more energy and focus] the next few days of practice in preparation for our conference opener against Vol State on Saturday."

Asjah Harrell led the way with 21 total points, while Britnay Gore followed just behind her with 20 of her own. Gore also grabbed 13 boards in the game. Za'kkria Robinson also chipped in 14 points and 11 rebounds.

The Lady Cougars' tip-off in their next game on Saturday in Gallatin, Tenn. is set for 2:00 ET.
