Cougars Hold Off Calhoun

It was a back and forth battle all night.

In the end the Cleveland State women's basketball team held off visiting Calhoun Community College 59-55.

"Calhoun gave us a good game and we had to work hard for that win," head coach Lisa Phillips said. "This team wants to win and they proved that tonight."

The game was tied going into halftime and the Cougars were up two starting the fourth quarter.

Derriona Salter scored a game high 15 points with Jordan McCullough right behind her with 14 of her own. Mackenzie Brenier and Latisha Parris also scored in double figures on the night.

"We struggled first half offensively, which created easy buckets for our opponent," Phillips said. "I thought we regained our composure after halftime and found some success on both ends of the court."

Cleveland State (2-0) travels to Chattanooga State (1-0) for their next game Wednesday, November 15 to open conference play. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
