Cougars Punish Pioneers

The Cougars snapped their three-game losing streak tonight in impressive fashion.

Cleveland State (7-9, 5-6) dominated Volunteer State (3-21, 2-11) on the Pioneers home floor taking a 61-36 win.

"I thought this was a good win for us tonight," head coach Lisa Phillips said. "Our team is tough and has learned how to rise above adversity."

Cleveland State started strong going up 10 points after the first quarter and didn't let Volunteer State get into the game.

The second quarter was tighter, but in the third the Cougars clamped down their defense only allowing the Pioneers to score one basket.

"I was pleased how we executed our style of basketball," Phillips said.

Jordan McCullough led Cleveland State in both scoring and rebounding putting together a double-double with 19 points and 10 boards. Jarnyria Maddox also scored in double figures with 17.

The Cougars have a week off before returning to the court for a home game hosting Jackson State (14-3, 9-3) on Saturday. The two met back on January 13 on the Green Jays floor with them taking a 73-59 victory. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
