Cougars Keep it Close But Can't Get Past Chargers

It was back and forth in the first half, but the Chargers pulled away from Cleveland State in the second half.

The Cougars (0-7, 0-5) were down to five total players for the second time this season losing at home to Columbia State (5-2, 5-0) 78-62.

The Chargers were up by three after the first quarter, and Cleveland State won the third quarter by two points, but ultimately couldn't put together enough runs to give Columbia State their first conference loss on the season.

Mar'Nazha Houston continues to lead the conference in rebounding and brought down another 24 today to go along with a team high 18 points for her first collegiate double-double. Ziara Thompson and Dejanae Dennis-Cassanova each added 16 points of their own for the Cougars.

For the Chargers Lily Melton was the story putting in 42 points while also bringing down 14 rebounds proving to be a tough matchup. Ansley Burleson is currently third in the conference in scoring and put in 20 in the game. Burleson and Melton together scored 62 of their team's 78 points.

Cleveland State will play at home again next on Tuesday, November 26 in a non-conference matchup against Southern Crescent Technical College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
