Lady Cougars Fight Hard, Fall To Lady Cardinals

Volleyball put up a tough battle against the undefeated Lady Cardinals of Gadsden State, but it was not enough as they fell in their first road game of the season 3-0.

The first set, the Lady Cougars fell 25-10. Stephanie Burke was a force in the set, getting a couple big kills at the 14-1 mark and the 24-10 mark of the set to give Cleveland State some momentum. Aly Grace Lemons also posted a strong service game in the set, serving four in a row.

The second set, Cleveland State fell 25-15. The set started off in back and forth fashion, with Madeline Dasher getting a crucial block at the 2-1 mark. Lemons continued to shine in the service game, recording an ace at the 12-8 point of the set. Two Lady Cougars also recorded a crucial block at 21-12, but they were unable to contain the Lady Cardinals.

The third set was much closer than the two previous. The final score as 25-23. Similar to the previous sets, Burke continued to record crucial kills and Lemons kept her serve strong. "The girls finally battled and showed up this set," said head coach Alizabeth Atnip. "It was just a little too late to make a big turnaround."

The Lady Cougars will travel to Boaz, Ala. tomorrow to square off with Snead State. Match time is set for 7:00 ET.
