Lady Cougs Drop Two Tight Sets, Fall at Johnson

Volleyball suffered a tough 3-0 defeat on Thursday night at Johnson University in Knoxville, Tenn.

The first set was extremely tight. Cleveland State fell 25-23. Stephanie Burke had three kills in the set and Aly Grace Lemons also posted two kills in the set, including one to get the Lady Cougars out of a tough rotation. Celie Patterson served five in a row beginning at the 9-2 mark of the set and also recorded a key block in a long rally for Cleveland State at the 18-12 point.

The second set was even closer, with Cleveland State falling 27-25 in the frame. Abbie Stinnett had two key blocks at the mark of the 6-2 set, which lead to a Lady Cougar point. Stinnett also recorded three kills in the frame, while Burke again posted three kills in the set. 

The third set was a bit more challenging for the Lady Cougars, as they suffered a 25-18 defeat to close the match. Madeline Dasher recorded a serve ace and kill in the frame, with Stinnett also posting a block assist with Lemons as well as two kills. 

Cleveland State will return home tomorrow to face Reinhardt JV. Match time is set for 7:00 ET.
