Lady Cougs Extend Winning Streak to Five at SVCC Tri-Match

Volleyball extended their winning streak to five with two victories at the Southwest Virginia Tri-Match on Saturday.

In the first match, the Lady Cougars won 3-0 over Central Carolina. 

In the first set, Cleveland State won 25-16. Aly Grace Lemons posted four kills in the set, while Abbie Stinnett posted three, including the set point. Both Madeline Dasher and Amanda Taylor recorded a service ace in the frame.

In the second set, Cleveland State defeated the CC Lady Cougars 25-14. Lemons was on fire offensively yet again, recording five kills in the set, including three straight for the CS Lady Cougars. Stephanie Burke was also a major contributor in the set, posting four kills. Cleveland State had another pair of service aces in the set, with Rileigh Barbour and Celie Patterson recording one each.

To close out the match, the CS Lady Cougars won 25-16. The scoring was distributed well for Cleveland State. Dasher and Lemons recorded a pair of kills a piece in the set, with six other Lady Cougars scoring as well. Both Dasher and Lydia Martin also posted service aces in the frame.

 

In the second of the two matches, Cleveland State defeated host school Southwest Virginia 3-1. 

In the first set, the Lady Cougars fell 25-23. Burke recorded four kills in the set, with both Stinnett and Sydney Allen posting two scores each that were scored on tips. Cydney Brock contributed defensively, blocking a Lady Flying Eagle attack.

The second set, the Lady Cougars needed an extra point to tie up the score, winning the set 26-24. Dasher and Allen came together to record a big block at the 9-6 mark of the frame. Burke again led the Lady Cougars in the frame with three kills, while Brock and Lemons also chipped in a pair. 

The next two sets were dominate for Cleveland State, leading their victory. In the third, Cleveland State won 25-18. Burke yet again powered the Lady Cougars offense, posting five kills in the set. Dasher blocked a Southwest Virginia attack in the frame as well. 

In the fourth, the Lady Cougars won 25-12. Stinnett scored off of a block at the 12-6 mark of the set, leading Cleveland State in the set with four total kills. Both Taylor and Martin also recorded service aces in the frame. 

The Lady Cougars will ride their winning streak into their next match as they return home for a crucial conference matchup with Walters State on Tuesday. Match time is set for 6:00 ET.
