Lady Cougs Defeat Chatt State in WSCC Fall Bash

Volleyball suffered a 1-3 record in Hanceville, Ala. on Friday and Saturday as they participated in the Wallace State Fall Bash.

In their first match of the weekend on Friday afternoon, Cleveland State fell 3-0 to Spartanburg Methodist. 

In their second match on Friday evening, the Lady Cougars fell 3-0 to Catawba Valley. Hannah Collins was a major contributor in the match offensively, especially in the first set, when she recorded five kills. Aly Grace Lemons and Celie Patterson also came together defensively to block a Lady Hawks' attack attempt.

Saturday morning featured the Lady Cougars' best game of the tournament. They defeated TCCAA rival Chattanooga State 3-1. Lemons scored the match point in the fourth set and also posted four kills in the second set to help guide Cleveland State to win their first of three straight sets. In the third set, Patterson posted kills and a block. Madeline Dasher also recorded a service ace to close the set with a 25-19 score.

In their final match of the day, the Lady Cougars fell 3-1 to Mississippi University of Women. The second set was their best in the game, as Cleveland State pulled out a 28-25 win, behind Lemons, Abbie Stinnett and Stephanie Burke's three huge kills each. 

The Lady Cougars will next play on Wednesday in a big conference matchup at Chattanooga State. Match time is set 6:00 ET.
