Volleyball will begin postseason play on Friday evening as they face Chattanooga State in the first round of the TCCAA Tournament as the second seeded home team for this match. The match will start at 6:00 ET and will take place as a neutral site game at Chattanooga State.
The Lady Cougars last played on Oct. 16 against these Lady Tigers. They won the match 3-1 behind the stellar offensive play of Stephanie Burke, who recorded 19 kills and a .293 attack percentage. Madeline Dasher was also a force in the match, contributing 10 kills and three total blocks. Their scheduled regular season home finale against Southwest Virginia on Oct. 22 was cancelled due to a scheduling conflict.
Cleveland State has swept Chattanooga State 3-0 to this point of the season. The two teams have met each other twice in conference matchups and once in a neutral site game at the Wallace State Fall Bash this season. The most memorable matchup came back on Sept. 25, when the Lady Cougars defeated the Lady Tigers 3-2 in a five-set thriller on their home floor.
The Lady Cougars have won two of their last three matches, including their last against the Lady Tigers on Oct. 16. Chattanooga State has been struggling to gain momentum of late, falling in their last eight matches.
Cleveland State appear often in the top three of the statistical categories in the TCCAA. Stephanie Burke is first in kills per set and second in kills in the TCCAA. Sydney Allen leads the region in assists while Lydia Martin is second in digs.
Should the Lady Cougars advance Friday evening, they would play on Saturday against the top-seeded Walters State Lady Senators. The match would begin at 1:00 ET at Chattanooga State.
