Cougars Secure Sweep vs. Flying Eagles Sunday

Baseball put together another dominant performance on Sunday to sweep their season-opening series with Southwest Virginia, winning 11-1 in seven innings vs. the Flying Eagles.

The Cougars were on fire offensively from the get-go. They scored 10 runs in the first and second innings alone and rounded out their lead in the fourth and sixth innings.

Bryce Jenkins was a key player in the game, going two-for-three at the plate while driving in a team-high three runs and scoring two. Courtney Payne also posted a multi-hit game, batting two-for-three with an RBI. Cooper Roberts also had two RBI and a walk in the contest, while Parker Hill stole three bases in the game.

The pitching was excellent in the game for Cleveland State. Starter Jonathan Hickman allowed just one earned run and tied a career-high by striking out eight batters in three innings of work. Javier Favela, Jared Young, Austin Thompson, and Bradley Hayes all came in to relieve Hickman and allowed no earned runs and just two hits in those four frames.

The Cougars will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Wallace State for their first road game of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 ET.
