Home Runs Abound for Cougs vs. Gordon State

Baseball suffered a 14-6 loss to the Highlanders of Gordon State at Cougar Field on Tuesday.

The Cougars were able to get runners on base, but were not able to capitalize on their seven hits and drive baserunners in. Cleveland State stranded nine total runners in the game.

Five of the Cougars' four runs scored came via home runs, with four being solo home runs. Jonathan Hickman, who was two-for-four with a walk in the game, hit one in the bottom of the third. Tanner Hill, who was one-for-two, hit one in the bottom of the seventh, and then Gavin Hollis, who was one-for-two in the contest, followed suit in the bottom of the eighth. Alex Ray, who batted three-for-five with two runs scored in the game, hit his own in the bottom of the ninth.

Offensively, Andrew Carpenter also posted a multi-hit game, posting two hits in five at-bats. On the mound, Bradley Hayes came in and provided an inning of perfect relief and struck out a batter.

The Cougars will be back in action on Friday as they open up their first conference series of the year vs. Jackson State. Friday's single-game against the Green Jays is set to begin at 2:00 ET.
