Lady Cougs Earn First Win of Season Saturday

Women's Basketball earned their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Southern Crescent Technical College 86-64 in Griffin, Ga.

The key to the win was the way that the Lady Cougars balanced the scoring. Britnay Gore led all scorers with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Charisma Barner also chipped in 14 points along with nine boards. Both Madison Dasher, who was 3-5 from behind the arc, and Za'kkria Robinson also posted double-digit points, with 11 and 10 respectively. Asjah Harrell led the way in the passing game with five total assists, a game-high.

Cleveland State was also 25 of 32 from the stripe, which was a "vast improvement" to head coach Evelyn Thompson. Thompson also sounded off on what the victory will do for the Lady Cougars going forward. "We were not as fundamentally sound as I would have liked, but we will take the win," she said. "It gives us the confidence we needed. Today's game was a team effort. Everyone contributed to the win."

The Lady Cougars will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Boaz, Ala. for a rematch with the Lady Parsons of Snead State. Game time is set for 6:30 ET.
