Hugh Walker served as the Head Women's Basketball Coach for the Lady Cougars from 1974-1985. He was the first coach in program history. He also served as the Head Softball Coach from 1981-1984. During his time at Cleveland State, he accomplished the following:

In his Cleveland State Women's Basketball Coaching Career:

  • Led the team to a 205-60 record
  • Named NJCAA Coach of the Year in 1978
  • Won four straight Region Championships from 1975-1978
  • Led the team to a seventh-overall NJCAA National Ranking in 1975
  • Led the team to a fourth-overall NJCAA National Ranking in 1976
  • Named Tennessee Junior College Coach of the Year in 1976
  • Coached four NJCAA All-Americans
  • Nominated by the NJCAA to serve as the Assistant Coach of the 1982 Pan-American Games
  • Was the sixth-winningest coach in NJCAA history when he retired in 1984

In his Cleveland State Softball Coaching Career:

  • Won two Region Championships
  • Led the team to a third-overall NJCAA National Ranking
  • Led the team to a fifth-overall NJCAA National Ranking

Walker also served as the NJCAA Regional Director for Tennessee and Kentucky from 1982-1984. He is a member of the TCCAA Hall of Fame and the Tennessee Wesleyan College Hall of Fame.
