Mike Fitzgerald played Baseball and Men's Basketball for the Cougars from 1967-1968. During his time at Cleveland State, he accomplished the following:

  • Named Cleveland State's inaugural Most Outstanding Athlete
  • Led the Men's Basketball team in scoring in both 1967 and 1968
  • Led the Baseball team in batting average in 1967 and 1968.

 Fitzgerald continued his collegiate career at University of Tennessee: Chattanooga after Cleveland State and was named a Sports News All-American Honorable Mention in 1971. He was also named an ASA First Team All-American in slow-pitch softball. He is also a member of the Greater Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame and the Cleveland Old-Timers Hall of Fame.
