Ed Grief served as Cleveland State’s Sports Information Director along with a role as the Athletic & P.E. Clerk from 1976-79. He earned his Bachelor of Communications from University of Tennessee: Chattanooga.

He went on to have a successful career in sports writing and editing and has since retired. He spent most of his career as the Sports Editor and a photographer at the Crossville Chronicle in Crossville, Tenn. (1996-2015).

He was a member of the Tennessee Sports Writers’ Association from 1987-2012, where he served as President from 2000-02. During his time there, he was also named chairman of the All-State Baseball and Softball Selection Committee.

He was regularly honored by the TSWA, earning dozens of top three finishes for his writing and layouts. Between 1987-89, he earned the Best Feature Writer honor twice and Best Columnist once. He was named the Best Headline Writer in Division II in 1998-99. In 2011-12, he earned Division II’s Best Individual Layout.

He was also honored by the American Publishing Company, earning third place for Best Sports Story in Division B Weeklies in 1990-91 and 1991-92 and second place for Best Sports Coverage in 1990-91.
