Number six seed Cleveland State bested number three seed Dyersburg State 10-9 to open the TCCAA Region VII Tournament on Monday May 9 using nine hits to score 10 runs while Dyersburg scored their 9 runs on 10 hits. Owen Clark started and went 4.1 strong innings followed by Daniel Crabtree who was the winning pitcher tossing 1.2 innings of relief for his 7th win of the year. Brett Varner threw one inning while Bryce Houghton picked up his 10th save with two innings of shutout ball.
The Cougars used an assortment of offensive weapons to take a 5-0 lead after three innings. Bryce Burkey doubled to drive home two, Avery Collins walked to plate another run while Andre Tarver was hit by a pitch to force home another run. Finally, a Brandon LeJeune groundout pushed in the fifth run.
Dyersburg took the lead after six scoring two, three and one run in three straight innings. Cleveland State answered quickly scoring two runs in the seventh and three in the eighth putting their run total of 10. Dyersburg made it interesting scoring three in the eighth inning for their final run total at nine. Houghton made sure it stayed at nine.
Burkey led the Cougar hitting with two hits and two RBI's while Jaylen Jones, Ryan Stephens, Collins, Tarver, LeJeune and Hunter Gray each had one hit. Gray and Collins turned their hitting line into plating two runs each. Rhett Hammontree had a sacrifice fly RBI as part of a two run seventh inning.

Cleveland State awaits the next opponent for their next tournament game which is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday May 10. The tournament is being played on the campus of Chattanooga State
