Men's XC Signs Regional Qualifying Transfer

Men's Cross Country added an experienced runner to their team as transfer Riley Higginbotham signed with the Cougars on July 3.

Higginbotham comes to the Cougars from Clayton State University, where he competed in the Peach Belt Conference meet as well as the Regional Meet as a freshman cross country runner in 2018, running a 29:20 8000m and a 38:11 10,000m. He was also the only freshman Laker to qualify for the Peach Belt Track & Field meet last spring.

Higginbotham hails from Locust Grove High School in Locust Grove, Ga. He ran three years of varsity cross country, earning Most Valuable Runner honors his senior year and qualifying for the state meet all three years. He was nominated for Henry County Athlete of the Year for track his junior year and cross country his senior year. He also was named Second Team All-County his senior year.

"Riley is going to bring college running experience to our team," said Cleveland State head coach David Kyle. "I feel he will make a huge impact on the team as a leader with my other two sophomores. I am super excited to see the teams compete this season."
