LADY COUGARS PICK UP A WIN IN GALLATIN

GALLATIN – Cleveland State Softball (11-24, 4-20) travelled to Gallatin over the weekend for conference games vs. Volunteer State and took one game from the Lady Pioneers while losing three.

Cleveland State will host Southwest Tennessee on Thursday, playing at 2 and 4 p.m.

Game One

The Cougar bats could only muster four hits and lost 9-0. Single hits came from Rachel Pierce, Grayson Brown, Macy Bryant and Kaley Cagle. Vol State scored five runs in the first inning and four more in the third in what would be the final runs of the game. Carly Frost took her second loss of the season.

Game Two

Starting pitcher Haley Hodgson won for the sixth time, as the Cougars bats came alive with 15 hits on the game. Brown led the attack going 4-for-4 with five RBI's. Pierce, Bryant, Bre Dunsmore and Mekala White each had two hits while Frost, Brittany Arnold and Hannah Jones contributed one each.

Hodgson scattered seven hits in the complete game victory.

Game Three

In the 11-3 loss on Saturday, the Cougars started off with three runs in the first inning only to see Volunteer State answer with three in their half of the first and five more in the second. Kaley Cagle took the loss moving her record to 4-8.

Cougars hitting were led by Frost and Arnold with two hits each and Brown and Dunsmore with one hit. Erin Hollis pitched three innings of effective relief.

Game Four

Cleveland State jumped on the board first with a first inning run, only to see Vol State answer with five of their own. The score would remain 5-1 until the Lady Pioneers tack on another run in the sixth.  Cougar softball mounted a rally in the top of the seventh, scoring two runs making the final score 6-3.

Cleveland State could not capitalize on 11 hits, as Hodgson took the loss moving her record to 6-11.  Arnold led the hitting attack with three hits while Frost and Jones had two hits each. Pierce, Brown, Bryant and White each had one. Brown, Bryant and Arnold drove in the three runs in the game.
