Cleveland State Softball (13-26, 6-22) split two games on each day of competition vs. Southwest losing game one on Thursday, 8-7 and coming back to win game two, 8-3.  Friday was much of the same, with Cleveland State losing game one 3-2 and then bouncing back in game two with a 7-1 win.

Game One

In a back and forth game, the Cougars and Saluqis played into the ninth inning tied at five when Southwest scored three runs in their half of the inning to take and 8-5 lead. Cleveland State mounted a rally, sending eight batters to the plate but could only push across two runs as the game ended in an 8-7 loss.

In what was a familiar theme throughout the game, the Cougars banged out 15 hits and left 14 runners on base, as Erin Hollis took the loss in relief of starter Kaley Cagle. Rachel Pierce, Grayson Brown and Rachael Goodson each had three hits while Carly Frost, Macy Bryant, Brittany Arnold, Hannah Jones, Bre Dunsmore and Emily Banks each had one hit.

Game Two

Behind the stellar pitching of Carly Frost (1-2) who pitched the entire seven innings, Cleveland State once again rapped out 15 hits and broke open the one-to-one game in the fifth inning, sending 12 batters to the plate, scoring six runs in the eventual 8-3 win.

Pierce, Bryant and Banks banged out three hits each, while Jones and Dunsmore each had two.  Frost and Brown rounded out the attack with one hit each.

Game Three

Carly Frost once again went seven innings but the Cougars came up on the short end of a 3-2 score as Southwest scored one run in the seventh inning to break a two run tie. On the game, Cleveland State mounted a seven hit attack, scoring their only runs in the sixth inning on RBI hits by Brown and Bryant.

Frost, Pierce, Banks, Bryant, Brown, Arnold and Adri Jones each had hits in the loss.

Game Four

Kaley Cagle won her fourth game of the season, going the distance as the Cougars scored in four of the seven innings as each batter in the lineup had at least one hit.

Frost, Pierce, Banks and AJ Chancey led the way with two hits each while Brown, Bryant, Arnold, Dunsmore and Hannah Jones each had one.  Banks had multiple RBI's driving in two runs in the third inning.
