This past Thursday, Cleveland State Softball (13-28, 6-22) lost a doubleheader to visiting Georgia Highlands by scores of 4-3 and 11-0. Game one went eight innings, while game two was five innings.
Game One
Carly Frost (1-4) gave a gutty pitching performance, working in and out of trouble for eight innings while only giving up two earned runs on the game as Highlands pushed across an international tie breaker run in the eighth.
Going into the sixth inning the Cougars were down 2-0 but scored three runs on a run scoring double by Grayson Brown, a RBI single by Hannah Jones and a sacrifice fly by Brittany Arnold to take a 3-2 lead going into the seventh inning. Georgia Highlands manufactured a run to the tie the game in their half of the seventh, eventually winning in the eighth.
On the game, Cleveland State managed seven hits with one each coming off the bat of Frost, Brown, Macy Bryant, Emily Banks, Jones, Arnold and Adri Jones.
Game Two
The Cougars fell behind immediately in game two when Highlands pushed across three runs in the first inning giving them a three-run lead that would never be challenged in the 11-0 defeat.
Kaley Cagle took the loss in a twenty minute rain-delayed game in the third as Cleveland State's hitting attack consisted of singles by Rachel Pierce, Banks and Bre Dunsmore.
