Cleveland State softball (15-29, 8-23) traveled to Dyersburg a day late due to weather and came away with two wins in three games vs. Dyersburg on April 23 and 24 with wins of 9-7 and 9-2 and a seventh inning 3-2 loss in game three. Game two was rained out with the score tied at one in the top of the fourth inning.
Game One
After a six-hour stop and start bus trip, Cougar softball came back from deficits of 3-0 and 5-3 to score six runs in the fifth inning, eventually winning the game 9-7. Winning pitcher Carly Frost hurled four innings with Erin Hollis finishing the final three as Cleveland State efficiently used seven hits and five walks to push across the nine runs.
The hitting stars were AJ Chancey and Brittany Arnold with two hits each as Chancey blasted a grand slam to left giving her five RBI's on the game. Frost, Emily Banks and Rachael Goodson rounded out the Cougar hit attack with one each.
Game Two
The rain came out to play and the game was called after one inning, with the score tied at one.
Game Three
Once again Cleveland State came back from a first inning 1-0 deficit to take the lead in the second inning on a two-out, two-run homer off the bat of Bre Dunsmore, driving in Banks who had singled to start the inning.
The Cougars held the lead until Dyersburg State scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the game 4-3. Haley Hodgson scattered five hits in going the distance for Cleveland State and took the hard luck loss giving her a record of 6-13.
Along with Dunsmore's first college career homerun and Banks single, Frost, Bryant, Arnold and Lakelyn Reed each had single base hits.
Game Four
Cleveland State pitcher, Erin Hollis won her second game of the season, with a complete game as the Cougars gave up one run in the first and then exploded with runs in single runs in the second, third and seventh and three runs each in the fourth and fifth.
In another first on the day, Rachel Pierce crushed her first college career homerun over the right field fence in what would be the ninth and final run of the game for the Cougars.
Of the Cougars 14 hits, Pierce had four and Banks had three along with four RBIs that included a bases-clearing double in the fourth. Arnold continued her hot hitting with two hits, while Frost, Bryant, Chancey, Dunsmore and Goodson chipped in with one each.
