Softball Extends Winning Streak vs. Glen Oaks Wednesday

Softball extended their winning streak to six games on Wednesday, sweeping Glen Oaks Community College at home.

GAME 1- Cleveland State 8, Glen Oaks 0 (5 innings)

The Lady Cougars offense came alive early and never looked back as they defeated the Lady Vikings 8-0 in the first game of the two-game set with Glen Oaks.

The first inning was Cleveland State's biggest, with Amber Atkins driving in two runs with a double and then Kati Kennedy and McCoy Hensley each driving in a run to score four in the inning. Hensley's RBI came via a home run, her fourth of the season, and she was two-for-three with an RBI in the game in total. Kennedy also recorded two hits in the game.

The Lady Cougars then went on to score one run in the second inning and another three in the fourth to cruise to victory. Offensively, Anna Yell went two-for-three with three RBI and two runs scored. She also hit her first collegiate home run in the fourth inning.

Macy Smith pitched spectacularly, throwing a five-inning shutout with a career-best eight strikeouts and only three hits allowed. She earned the win as well.

GAME 2- Cleveland State 27, Glen Oaks 0 (5 innings)

Cleveland State then put up a huge sum of runs in the second game of the series, defeating Glen Oaks 27-0.

The Lady Cougars scored multiple runs in all four innings they batted in. Both Kaylee Hughes and Turner hit three hits and drove in five runs a piece. Katie Davis drove in three runs and posted three hits, while Hensley also had three hits, drove in three runs, and hit her second home run of the day in the contest. Atkins, Kat Cechini, and Kennedy all also drove in two runs.

The pitching was equally as impressive in the game, as Kaylee Cornelius and Anna Yell combined to throw a five-inning no-hitter with eight combined strikeouts. Cornelius earned her fourth win in the effort.

The Lady Cougars will be back in action on Friday and Saturday as they travel to Motlow State to resume conference play. Friday's doubleheader is set to start at 2:00 ET.
