Baseball travels to Barnesville, Ga. on Friday and Saturday for their first road games of the year at Gordon State. Friday's first pitch in the single-game to start the series is set for 2:00 ET, while Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled to start at 12:00 ET.
Rain and snow have been the enemy of the Cougars' to start their season. After a season-opening sweep of Southwest Virginia at home that brought their record to 3-0 to start the season on February 1 and 2, all five of Cleveland State's scheduled contests have been marred due to bad weather.
The Cougars will hope their offense and pitching will be able to continue their hot streak, despite the break in action. Cleveland State outscored the Flying Eagles of Southwest Virginia 41-7 in the three-game series. They will also hope their sophomores will continue to play spectacularly, as the Cougars saw Lance Dockery and Jonathan Hickman drive in a team-high five runs in the series, while Andrew Carpenter scored the most runs with six. On the mound, both freshman Bryce Jenkins and Hickman posted solid starts, allowing just one run a piece.
The Highlands of Gordon State have started their 2020 campaign at 2-4. They last played on Sunday when they faced Chattahoochee Valley in a neutral site game and won in a 5-4 thriller in 14 innings. Prior to the win, they had lost four straight.
After this series, Cleveland State will travel to Rome, Ga. for a one-game slate with Georgia Highlands. Gametime is set for 3:00 ET.
