Baseball Sweeps Tusculum JV Wednesday

Baseball swept Tusculum JV 2-0 at home on Wednesday afternoon.

 

GAME 1- Cleveland State 6, Tusculum JV 1

The Cougars defeated the Pioneers 6-1 in the first game of their two-game set with Tusculum JV. 

After two and a half scoreless frames for either team, Cleveland State struck first, scoring a run in the bottom of the third inning courtesy of a Chase Dubet RBI. After the third and fourth innings, the floodgates poured open for the Cougars, as they scored two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to close out the contest strong.

Blake Bryan drove in three runs in the game and was also one-for-two with two runs scored. Courtney Payne and Jonathan Hickman had the other two RBI for Cleveland State.

On the mound, Daniel Willie had a solid start, allowing just one run and striking out seven over four innings of work. Javier Favela, Bradley Hayes, and Brennan Davis came in in relief of Willie and combined to pitch three innings of no run, no hit, four strikeout ball. Favela also earned his first collegiate win for the Cougars.

 

GAME 2- Cleveland State 16, Tusculum JV 5

The Cougars' offense exploded in the second game as they defeated the Pioneers 16-5 in six innings. 

Kenny Naysmith had a big game for Cleveland State, going four-for-four with three doubles. He also drove in three runs and scored four. Alex Ray had another multi-hit game, going two-for-three with an RBI, while Gavin Hollis was also two-for-two with two RBI, two walks, and a run scored. Andrew Carpenter, Bryce Jenkins and Jack Patterson all also drove in two runs in the game.

Pitching wise, Dayton Wisley started and allowed no earned runs and just three hits over four innings. He also earned his first collegiate win in the effort.

 

The Cougars will be back in action on Friday as they open their first home conference series of the season vs. Roane State. The single-game is set for 2:00 ET.
