Baseball Wins Weekend Series with Roane State

Baseball earned a 2-1 series win after splitting wins with Roane State in Saturday's doubleheader.

GAME 1- Cleveland State 2, Roane State 3

Cleveland State battled back in their first game of the day vs. Roane State, but the rally fell just short, as they fell 3-2 to the Raiders.

Pitching was solid for the Cougars and kept them in the contest. Kaleb Orr started the game, allowing three runs over three and two thirds innings of work. Daniel Willie allowed no hits and two walks in three and a third innings of relief of Orr.

Both Blake Bryan and Kenny Naysmith had a hit in the effort.

The Cougars then used a dramatic, come-from-behind victory of the Raiders to secure that series win.

After falling behind Roane State 8-3, the Cougars gradually picked away at the lead, eventually regaining it after Jonathan Hickman singled in the sixth inning to drive in Courtney Payne and Andrew Carpenter as the tying and go-ahead runs.

Alex Coulter had a big game, going three-for-four from the plate while also scoring three runs and walking once. Bryan had a multi-hit game, going two-for-three with three RBI, two runs scored, and a home run. Alex Ray also drove in two runs in the effort.

In relief, Dayton Wisley earned the win, allowing no earned runs and striking out two in two innings of work. Bradley Hayes picked up his second save of the season, allowing just one hit in an inning of work.

The Cougars will be back in action on Tuesday as they host Calhoun for a single game on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 ET.
