Cleveland State couldn't hold off the Eagles in the second half.
The Cougars (2-4, 0-3) went into halftime with a lead at Dyersburg State (2-5, 1-2), but the Eagles took control in the second half winning 78-72.
"We didn't do enough to win today," head coach Rafael Howard said. "It's hard to win when you don't take care of the ball and turn it over."
Cleveland State turned it over 22 times on the night. Dyersburg State shot 57% from the field and put in 40% of their shots from behind the arch with the Cougars shooting 49.1% from the field and making 33.3% from behind the three point line.
"We've got to understand the importance of details and doing the little things on the court," Howard said. "We knew Dyersburg would come ready to play, they made shots when they needed them and we couldn't put together enough stops in the second half."
Dyersburg's Elijiah Causly led all scorers with 24 points on the night. Marquis Tunstall added 18 and Isaiah Claybrooks scored 15. For Cleveland Jeremiah Hayes led the way with 18 points while Carson Boyle had 16 and Kam'Ron Lee put in 11.
Next up for the Cougars is a trip to Walters State (1-4, 0-2) on Wednesday, November 20 with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
