CLEVELAND STATE SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH SNEAD STATE

Cleveland State softball (10-17, 3-13) won game two of a doubleheader with Snead State, 4-3, by scoring a run in the bottom of the 7th inning on Monday. In game one Snead doubled up the Cougars by a score of 8-4.

Cleveland State returns to softball action on Friday, when they host Walters State in a conference doubleheader at 2 and 4 p.m.

With the score knotted at three in game one, Snead plated three in the fifth and two in the sixth for their eight runs, as the Cougars only answer was a final run in the fifth. Kaley Cagle took the loss, giving her a season record of 4-7 as Cleveland State parlayed nine hits into four runs.

Rachel Pierce and AJ Chancey had two hits each, while Grayson Brown drove in two of the Cougar runs with a third inning double. Other hitters with one hit included Macy Bryant, Brittany Arnold, Bre Dunsmore and Mekala White. Chancey accounted for one of the four runs with an RBI single in the third.

Haley Hodgson went the distance for the game two win, moving her season record to 5-8. Snead scored three runs in the fifth only to see the Cougars answer back with three of their own, mounting the rally after two were out. Carly Frost, Pierce, Brown and Bryant strung four hits together with Brown driving home one and Bryant two to even the score.

In the bottom of the seventh with the threat of stormy weather, Pierce led off with a double down the left field line and moved to third on a one out single up the middle by Bryant. With Arnold, up to bat, Pierce came home with the winning run as she beat the throw home on a groundball to second base.
