Baseball split a doubleheader 1-1 with Roane State in Harriman on Monday, falling 1-0 and winning 4-3 over the Raiders.
The first game was a pitcher's duel between Roane's Lincoln Bowman and Ryan Inches. Inches tossed 5.2 innings of shutout, nine strikeout ball before giving up a run with two outs in the fifth inning. CF Tucker Mendenhall was 1-for-2 with a walk in the game.
In the second game, Cleveland State was tied with the Raiders 3-3 heading into the top of the ninth inning. CF Lance Dockery's single, one of two hits to earn him an RBI on the day, drove in SS Andrew Carpenter, who was 2-for-3, for the go-ahead run to secure a 4-3 victory. LF Brennan Davis was also 1-for-4 with an RBI.
The Cougars will next play Friday at 2:00 ET vs. Motlow State, opening a weekend series with their conference foe.
