Cougars Advance to TCCAA Tournament Championship

Cleveland State advanced to the TCCAA Championship after their 70-66 win over Roane State Monday.

The first half was marked by many lead changes. The Cougars fell down six points to the Chargers, but came back to take a 25-24 lead at the 5:10 mark after Delaino Walker, who had team-highs with 31 points and 8 rebounds, converted an and-one. Cleveland State regained a 28-27 lead after losing it again at the 3:35 mark after Kerry Pratt, who scored seven, also converted an and-one.

The second half was a battle at first for the Cougars. They found themselves back down, trailing seven points to the Chargers, but regained the lead at the 13:46 mark off of another Walker and-one. After they took the lead, the game featured multiple lead changes and no team could pull away until Cleveland State took a six-point lead with 8:24 to play.

Columbia State came within two points in the last three minutes, but Exavian Young, who had 11 points, scored a layup with 46 seconds left to put the Cougars up 66-61 and seal the deal.

Cleveland State will play #8 Roane State tomorrow at 4:00 ET. The winner of that game will earn a bid to play in the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, KS March 18-23.
